Frequent words in Spanish news articles
The table below gives a list of the 200 most frequently occuring Spanish base words in
a sample of contemporary news and magazine articles. Figures in brackets indicate that
the figure in question is probably inaccurate by more than 5%; other figures are believed
to be accurate to within at least 95%. (This accuracy is related to the accuracy of the
underlying automatic part-of-speech tagger, which will be improved over time.)
For example, the word la has its figure in brackets because the
tagger can't determine with 95% accuracy whether the given instance of the word
la is a "determiner" or "pronoun"1. Of course, in some cases this
distinction is arbitrary anyway.
